No Quick Fixes

As much as we would like, there are no quick fixes when it comes to pain. Pain can involve a variety of factors. There can be a chemical component like inflammation. Inflammation can be present for a million different reasons. How’s your hydration been? What does your diet look like? There can be a mechanical component like a stiff or restricted joint. There can even be a psychological component to pain. One of the most common scenarios we see is when a person injures an area, let’s say they hurt their back squatting, and then they stop doing all squat-like movements or stop working out in general because they’re scared of hurting their back again. People can end up feeling defeated and depressed because of their pain which can affect their recovery. Your body can be stuck in a sympathetic (fight or flight) state. We’ve seen lots of people like this and with the holidays coming up people are even more stressed, always on the go, and not taking time for themselves.

Unfortunately, we live in a world of instant gratification. People crave that instant fix.

Every person’s body is different and everyone’s pain experience is different, therefore, everyone’s treatment and recovery will look different, it has to. A treatment or exercise that works great for one person may not work or be appropriate for another. That doesn’t mean the treatment didn’t work or was a “bad” treatment, it just means that person didn’t respond well to it. When treating people with pain, it takes time. We have to address all the components that can be contributing to the pain. It’s important to get assessed by someone who has multiple tools and knows when to use them.
